How Can You Apply Pronunciation to Your Life?
Learning to pronounce English is not just about the technicalities of the language. We need How to Make Your Pronunciation Course Useful to You and Not Forget What You’ve Learnt
We look at how you use your body to prepare yourself to make the sounds of English We also need to relate pronunciation to real life contexts, so we work on pronunciation within project work such as giving a presentation. This will help you integrate what you have learnt into practical situations. Pronunciation activities need to be taken in context. Pronunciation is relevant to grammatical structures, phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions. I find that students enjoy incorporating what they learn into current affairs, arts, science, economics or whatever interests they may have.
British English pronunciation is made up of individual sounds of English that you may not be used to. You might find it difficult to get your mouth round our vowels.
–You will make sounds you thought you couldn’t pronounce
–From day one of the Pronunciation Lessons Express course you will learn how to make the music of the language
Stress and Intonation
Native English speakers pronounce certain sounds within words stronger than others and how we stress sounds also affects the rise and fall of words within a sentence. Intonation is the way speakers rise and lower our tone according to the meaning behind what we are saying. You will be able to notice how and why we emphasise certain words, making them longer and clearer, and when we make other words so weak that they virtually disappear.
– You will understand how intonation affects meaning.
Native English speakers also put words together so that many words sound like one word and some words disappear all together. There are some common patterns to this and some key words you need to listen out for.
–You will know how connected speech will help you produce English that we are familiar with and understand native English speakers.
